Hi all,

I was wondering where does it say in KS rules that you can only only pledge for one level? I know it is physically impossible to pledge for more than one level, but project owners usually let you increase bid to add up to what you want and then you specify in the survey at the end of the funded campaign.

Thanks in advance

Hi IsrealNahsohn

I believe there used to be a rule against offering higher reward tiers that just had multiple units of the reward, but creators just let backers double or triple pledges when entering their pledge amounts, so (for that reason or another) KS got rid of that rule. I have not seen anything about pledging at one level and adding money to cover another reward from another pledge level. And if it is against the rules, then I have broken the rules many times, including a project that funded yesterday ;). and on a few projects where I had pledged for early bird and upped my pledge following a stretch goal or another amendment to the rewards, so not to lose the early bird price on the first part of the reward, with the creators consent of course.

Just curious what brought this question up (a creator, KS or thoughts for your own campaign) if you are willing to share?

Cheers
Rhonda

A creator quoted the one pledge/prize offer per backer. I've heard it only a couple of times in my 137 projects. Most of my pledges have been increased for more than one. I didn't want to push a creator if it was a real rule.

Thanks for the response,

Interesting ... I just Googled the following
One reward per pledge Kickstarter

First result shows the language and links here
https://www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/backer+questions

Then I searched that page for the term "one" and found ....

Can I pledge to a single project more than once?
On Kickstarter, it is only possible to pledge to each project once from a single account. Accordingly, backers can only choose one reward tier per pledge. However, you can change your pledge amount and reward selection for as long as a project is live.

To me, the creator is reading that statement too literally ... But I am just a Backer who has pledged multiple rewards numerous times :)

I like your (I mean our) understanding. I do understand it may become hard to manage multiple items and shipping, but as so many creators say it's ok, it must be do-able. I won't push, it is the creators loss!

Thanks for finding the rule. Much appreciated.

My advice to creators quoting the "one prize per pledge" DO THIS BY PM not publicly:

How do I do multiple pledges: A. if they can double pledge or combine $$ to get different pledges tell them how & remind them of #1 above or B. email you with new pledge ideas or C. not available - pick 1 pledge only - don't tell backers kickstarter won't let them "pledge twice" as too many of us have done "double pledges" (we pick $25 pledge - up $$s to $50 & get 2 of item for example)

Projects that show how to do "multiple pledges" or "donation copies" & Kickstarter rules: I Have talked to several creators about this & they've me that's what they found in the rules - can't sell more than 10 if a single item nor let people do donations of more than 10.

And for add-ons, combining levels check out GIR Silicone Lid Series: https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/pr ... lid-series

ARQ Dock 2.0 was a really simple increase your pledge up to 10x for the number of docks you want https://www.kickstarter.com/profile/backings/28760374

You are very welcome. I like our understanding too. So many creators, especially campaigns with large number of Backers, use BackerKit or other programs, that I don't think pledge management is a real excuse. Besides, as you point out it is the creator's loss of funding, and potentially backers, if they foreclose Backers from pledging for more items.
