I see we have a new contest in the lounge running. Again based on bringing creators in. I'm still waiting for useful criteria so I'm not looking stupid when referring creators. I wish the best of luck to others at my level 7 in winning the big bucks and look forward to congratulating you next month.
Mark you might want to add a link to Help for the criteria you have been willing to share.

Tasha, with a minimum of 10 projects required for first place not only would I like to better understand the selection criteria but I would also like to know that KS wasn't going to suspend me again during the process. I am happy to be a more passive recruiter and occasional active recruiter of both creators and backers.

Oh yeah I forgot about a number of members being suspended during the last recruitment contest. Apparently I've recruited a project this month so passive recruiting works. But I doubt I'll get 10 projects that way. I believe a couple of my passive recruited projects actually belonged to someone else but creator clicked on link in my profile instead of the person who actively mentioned the project to them over the last few months so I recommend anyone recruiting a project let Mark know you've done so & ask project to mention you in addition to using your link to be sure the correct person is credited.

I completely agree.numbat1 wrote:Tasha, with a minimum of 10 projects required for first place not only would I like to better understand the selection criteria but I would also like to know that KS wasn't going to suspend me again during the process. [*]. How many backers back 10 proj cuts a month?
[*] Add in the fact that some projects launch as Backer Club projects, so they won't count.
[*]. There are project types that tend to do well and many others that don't garner much interest on BackerClub, so most members are unlikely to recruit art, photography and other less popular (on Backer Club) project types
[*] Then you have to factor in the only a percent (probably small?) of Creators that someone tries to recruit will even be interested enough to check it out. Only some of those will apply and then out of those that apply. Some will be rejected.
[*] Plus the fact, as you mention, you could get banned from KS for participating and lose a week, if not give up recruiting forever
So, how many projects would you need to back to generate 10 successful referrals. (Assuming you avoid being punished by KS) It must be more than 30, unless you are really lucky. And how many backers, even club members back that many projects a month? Not many, and the few that do are likely the super-backers in tiers 6 and 7 or maybe 1-2 people shooting through the ranks. Maybe a few people will try for the third place prize, but I don't see many trying for 2nd and even fewer for first.
This contest seems pretty doomed. My lounge (2 stars) certainly supports that theory, 3 members have each recruited a new member, but none have recruited even one project yet this month.
Oh well, just some random thoughts about this whole thing.

Currently in the 7 star lounge 2 of us have brought in 1 project each.
I popped over to the leader boards and see one person brought in 10 projects & another 40 since founders have been tracking. Two people in ~6 months in total projects brought in numbers high enough to count. I'm not sure anyone has ever brought in 10 projects in a single month - maybe the one guy with 40 referrals?
Have I recommended before that the founders might want to talk to members before running contests so we feel motivated by them instead of explaining why we won't be participating?
Maybe I picked the wrong time to start stopping in again. LOL

Also did you notice that the person with 10 is an intern, and all 10 are from August? And one other person who has recruited a project in August is an intern. The fact that she is an intern may mean she has other avenues to "recruit" projects. No idea if they do, just seems suspect. She may also be ineligible for a prize, based on her intern ststus. Again, no idea what the actual opportunities or rules around intern project recruitment are.

Interns didn't used to be eligible but it doesn't say one way or the other in the rules this time so who knows. All the intern has to do is back what 39 projects this month to become a full member? At a buck a project with a guarantee to win $500 I'd say that's a reasonable investment. If I were the intern I'd check with Mark to find out their status and how the rules apply to them ASAP.

I think that I have a different understanding of "intern" than how it is being used inBC. I took the label to mean that they are working with Mark, but it sounds like they are "pre-members" who have yet to reach 50 projects.TashaTurner wrote:Interns didn't used to be eligible but it doesn't say one way or the other in the rules this time so who knows. I will point out that you only have to inspire creators to submit not find ones that will be approved. Still, I am not keen on actively suggesting it when I have no idea what the reception will be. Like Tasha, my points are mostly earned via passive methods these days. If there are questions about BackerClub in comments on a project I am following then I will answer them and sometimes point to the links in my profile for those who are interested in following up on it.
Also, as Tasha mentioned, I don't think that the credit always goes to the person who is discussing with a creator the idea of joining. I have had PM discussions with some when it is appropriate and then seen them in BackerClub and received no credit. Not a big deal for me. I'd like the club to grow strong and that rather than the competition is what I look for. The backer bucks would be nice given I am on a tight budget but to be honest I've also been too lazy to follow up on those already in my account so hard to complain.
