the Crystal Wash project is definitely scammy, as pointed out in http://gizmodo.com/this-kickstarter-is- ... 1689640209

how can we keep scammy projects off BC?

I think Mark/co-founder said if Kickstarter let the project on that it was ok by him? I dropped down to a $1 as I want to be able to keep an eye on it. Did you email the admin address?

Well, scammy is maybe not the correct word in this case. I'm sure they are going to fulfill on their project. It is the science behind the project that is phony, I wonder if JREF would be interested in slamming this project.

Funded so not much can be done about them.

TOB cable is another problem project IMHO. Creator changed name. Both of past projects under previous name have been late, poor communication, complaints on quality of product from those who have recieved. I need to pull data together and pass along to co-founders.

Someone poined out Jada's Chicken Salt sells on Amazon for way less.

I think more research needs to be done before accepting projects.

This is exactly what I was hoping to hear. I know BC isn't massive (yet), but if this is supposed to be an elite group of backers, shouldn't the products be held to a higher standard before being presented?

And yes, while they may deliver the products, I meant the "science" behind them was already disproven long ago.

I've written to the co-founders about Jada & TOB cable with the issues surrounding both and my thoughts on us being "elite" but lack of research, from what we can see, on products/creators.

So Jada Chicken is no longer a BackerClub project although they haven't pulled their BC logo so I've wri to Mark again.

Founders are looking into issues with TOB cables.

It's to late to do anything about Crystal Wash.

I'm feeling like I should be paid for the work I do around here. 8-)

This is a tough one. Not enough rules, you let in the scammers and crackpots...Too many rules and you scare away the very people you're trying to help.

While I believe Kickstarter has a responsibility to not allowing scams to make it into their ranks (and they've killed more than a few), I don't want them policing every Project either. If you start making stringent rules and rigid requirements to lock out the scammers, then unfortunately you're going to also likely scare away the people that this whole notion of 'crowdfunding' was for at the same time.

Funny thing too is that there have been creators that have defected from Kickstarter over to Indiegogo on their future projects because Indie is more lenient...I don't know about anyone else, but the last time I browsed Indiegogo I had to dig through pages and pages of "give me money for no reason" projects before getting to legit ones here and there.

I don't envy KS on how and where they strike that balance.

In this case the question is should BackerClub do more due diligence and be picky about the projects we let in. It we are going to be advertising as ab ELITE GROUP some of feel the founders/people running BC and picking the projects need to be more careful in what they approve. The founders are unwilling to share their criteria with us.

I'm not sure the solution from the groups standpoint. I have some ideas which I may run past the founders over the next few weeks.

I agree about the indiegogo statement. Especially after I spent hours going through project for the podcast. I was shocked at the number of people asking for money to buy things. It was quite off putting. It does make me hope the podcast is use of use though.
