About this project

Hello Kickstarters, this project is intended to be a craftsman's take on minimalism and his response to 'planned obsolescence'.

I apologise if SHIBUI sounds kind of pretentious for a leather belt 'made in Romania', but it is my aspiration as a craftsman to make my objects worthy of this Japanese aesthetic principle.

                                                                             .

In time, all belts are developing these kind of curves. Some sooner, some later. A bit like the wine, the bad ones get ruined in the process, the good ones get better. The SHIBUI belt comes 'shaped to perfection'.

                                                                             .

                                                                             .

In order to keep this presentation short, I used (rather long :) videos to give you more information about:

1. THE SHAPE

#{project_title}'s video poster

 2. THE MATERIAL

#{project_title}'s video poster

 and  3. THE BUCKLE

#{project_title}'s video poster

                                                                            .

I wouldn't criticise the good old classic buckle for it's bulkiness. I've been wearing one for decades and never felt like complaining. But the Conway buckle is a breed apart.

                                                                             .

                                                                             .

                                                                             .

One belt plus two buckles equals four colour combinations.

                                                                             .

Talking about thickness - you can see it here, compared to the belt that I've used every day for almost 30 years.

                                                                            .

The Conway buckle was meant to be functional, it was not meant to be beautiful. So I had to reshape it, with respect for the original.

                                                                             .
