You've experienced it. You bought a brand new pair of sandals for this summer. The strap falls apart after a week, or you constantly feel as if you are on an ice rink whenever you step on water. However, you accept this as a way of life, since all sandals are like that.

At Rhea Footwear, we challenged this by integrating design with durability and technology. Our sandal collections - Vepo, Eva, and Duos, are designed for comfort, and built to provide you with the greatest friction on any surface, including wet and slippery conditions. 

Our outsole is made from an exclusive rubber compound that provides the highest traction in the shoe industry in most slippery surface conditions. Once the surface is wet, our outsole grips the surfaces to provide unreal friction.

Our patented micro-channel treads push liquids away from the bottom of the sole to provide more sole-to-floor contact, reducing slipping and sliding. Our patented outsole mold is carefully engineered to the finest and most precise shape pattern.

National Floor Safety Institute (NFSI), outlines some of the dangers and statistics of slip-and-falls. We visited the National Floor Safety Institute in Texas to discuss the importance of educating people on how to prevent slip and fall accidents.

We performed a Mark II lab test to measure the friction coefficient between our outsole and slippery floors (such as tiles with liquid, glass with liquid, steel plate with liquids). We found out that in order to actually prevent people from slipping, the friction coefficient should be higher than .45 on a scale from 0 to 1, with 1 being the highest. As shown in our test chart, our outsoles have over .7 friction coefficient on any type of liquid surface. It allows our outsoles to have super high traction, which is demonstrated in the video. Our outsoles are unbeatable; even the other current non-slip shoes have average friction coefficients of less than 0.4 on water and less than 0.3 on oily surfaces.

We wanted to provide colorful and vibrant outsoles so you can express your style from all sides including side and bottom.

Using the state-of-the-art machinery and skilled craftsmen, our flip-flops go through many points of inspection for the finest quality. The craftsmen have experience in manufacturing shoes for thirty years. South Korea is currently one of the world's top manufacturers in high quality and high technology products.

•  The Outsole - Our patented outsole uses a special rubber compound to provide unbelievable traction on all surfaces- wet and dry. It also has a micro-tread pattern to channel out liquids and provide maximum contact with the surface. Think of this as either the special rain tires for cars.

•  The Midsole Cushion - By adding EVA and PU midsoles, our flip-flops give just the right amount of cushion to provide maximum comfort. It can be compared to suspensions in cars.

• The Strap - In order to provide exceptional durability, we infused the straps with a special fabric that provides extra resistance and durability to tension. It can be compared to an anti-roll bar within a car.

 

 

Paul went to the factory to check the quality and test the sturdiness of the sandals for production.

Our women's sandals come in either one-strap or two-strap. Eva, our one-strap, comes in three different colors - pastel green, white, and yellow.

Duos, our two-strap sandals, come in three different two-tone colors - Black/Gold, Ink Splash (Dark Green/Light Green), and Candy Bar (Pink/Light Blue).

The MEN'S VEPO model comes in four different colors - black, burgundy, blue, and green.

Our flip-flops come in whole sizes. For example, if you wear a 8.5 US men's size, our size 9 will fit you well. This is the same with women's sizes as well. If you wear a size 7.5 US, our size 8 will fit you well.

We spent the last year developing and testing our sandals. Even though we have a great technology and a great product, we are still a small company battling some of the largest competitors in the world. We believe that this is the best and most efficient way to get our sandals to people who want it the most.

We stand firmly behind our sandals. If our strap breaks apart within the year of 2015, we will exchange your sandals with a brand new pair.

 

Risks and Challenges

Rhea sandals are nearly complete. All sandals shown on this page were built on our production line. We are currently manufacturing our products and we are ready to meet the estimated delivery time.

Last year, we launched our men's and women's classic lines through Kickstarter. We met and exceeded our funding goal last year. We were honored with the great feedback from everyone and with their support, and we are coming back even stronger.

We have set up a strong logistic line as well in order to deliver on time. We are confident, through our preparation, experience, and goals, that we will fulfill our promise to our backers, no matter what challenges arise.
