Kickstarter Campaign Updates

Oh no! Wedy Jones has gone and got her self kidnapped, again!

Help Snuguru rescue Wedy and unlock juicy treats along the way. Snuguru can't move without retweets, so help him by retweeting the pinned tweet on Onion Soup's twitter page.

Each chest has an amount of Twitter retweets required to open it and reveal the delicious content that it holds.

If we reach Wedy Jones then she becomes an in-game playable character! Huzzah

Social Game Update:

Chest 1: OPENED: New Character: Reiwa Man

Chest 2: OPENED: New In-Game Item: French Bread

Chest 3: 150 retweets of pinned tweet required to open chest!

What treats will he sniff out? Are they new game features or exclusive designs for merchandise? Only time (and retweets) will tell.

Nippon Marathon 2 is the ultimate "Bakage" (Japanese for "Stupid Game"). Players race across a bizarre obstacle course until only one player remains. Skill and chaos are united in one wonderful experience. Last time you raced across Japan, this time you take on the world. This is Nippon Marathon 2 - the Brave World Tour!

Nippon Marathon 2 is built from the ground up with all new physics based chaos, beautiful new character models and stretch goals including (but not limited to) online mode.

Tour the world as Darwin, Nishibori, Zenbei and Snuguru or choose one of the totally ridiculous new contestants.

Try to finish in first place in a marathon spanning the globe. Hang onto your rival's lobster tail using new abilities such as grip or send them flying into a pile of shiba-inu using new weapons such as the star fruit.

Heck, you can even finish them off with the all new character-specific B-MOVES!

View the world through the lens of a Japanese game-show! Keep your eyes peeled and your lobster-onesie on standby - so many surprises await you!

It's a balanced game that's fun for any skill level - a skilled player will generally win, but an unskilled player will sometimes be able to get an underdog victory.

Twitter / Discord / Press Kit

London, England - Featuring Big Ben, red busses, red phone boxes, Regent street, British Bulldogs and Her Royal Highness- the Queen?! Hitch a ride on a Hackney Carriage to victory!

The Desert, USA - Starting in the desert and finishing at the cosplay stage of a world famous convention, this course is gonna get hot and messy.

La Garde, France - Let's squash some grapes! This course runs through the grape-juice bottling plant owned by the Le Roux family. There's plenty of vines to swing from - but watch out for the hazardous vats of grape juice and the breadstick carrying cyclists.

More courses will be revealed along the way and we'd love to hear your suggestions on future courses in our Discord.

Once thrown homes in on the leader of the pack, explodes on impact sending tasty debris flying everywhere.

Stinks to high heaven, anyone caught in its smelly cloud will cough and eventually fall down. The mushroom is powerful but drains your popularity.

We all know what this does.

Inflates into the air carrying you with it, use this to clear many obstacles at once or to take shortcuts.

Acts like a shrunken, one star fruit yields three throwing stars which fire out in-front of you. Unlike the Homing Melon these are aimed manually.

We'll unveil any further weapons as we progress through the campaign or development! Why not suggest one in our Discord.

1-4 players - The classic Marathon and perfect for a session with friends on the couch or online (stretch goal permitting). Contestants race through checkpoints toward the finish-line, along the way they must leap over strange obstacles and hazards.

Collect weapons  to use against your opponents and fill your B-GAUGE to unleash powerful B-MOVES.

1-8 players - Party games are silly additional games designed for maximum fun. Nippon Marathon  included Trolley Bowling which allowed you to live out your dream of nailing a seven-ten split by hurtling toward them in a jet-powered shopping cart.

For Nippon Marathon 2 we will reveal the party games at a later date - just to keep some surprises!

Solo play is supported, but playing with friends is better! What's better than throwing your best mate into a barrel head-first whilst being chased by shiba-inu?

Do you need a break mid-way to check your ears for melon chunks? No problem, drop-in /drop-out play is also supported. The marathon doesn't need to be paused for anyone.

Nippon Marathon 2 is local multiplayer but we've heard your cries for online mode, so keep your eyes peeled on those stretch goals.

Versus mode races are sometimes interrupted by a spontaneous game of fruit-machines or by Wedy Jones - the intrepid news reporter who will interview the contestants. Your answers will be unintentionally hilarious and may affect your popularity.

Between each course, anchorman Abe Watanabe will break down the scoring and popularity of the marathon so far using pie charts and graphs. He will also get the opinions of various celebrities who can heavily influence the popularity of each contestant.

B-MOVEs (or BRAVE-MOVES in full) are a new feature in Nippon Marathon 2. Using items and clearing obstacles will fill your B-GAUGE. Each character has a unique B-MOVE which can be unleashed to gain an advantage. Knowing your opponents' strengths and weaknesses along with timing your attack are crucial.

Popularity can affect your final score. There are many ways to gain popularity but often they are dangerous. Diving through a stack of cereal boxes is a popular move but could end in disaster. Likewise, if you offend the local people during a Wedy Jones interview you might become less popular.

Basically, every action has a reaction - It's "touka koukan" or equivalent exchange to you and me.

Fishermen holding giant carp, dancing mascots whose heads come off, snow monkeys and geisha are among the weird and wonderful hazards that litter the Nippon Marathon courses. Expect those to return and a whole host of new ones to challenge and surprise you such as a... British Bulldog?!?!

Nippon Marathon 2 uses a unique ragdoll physics simulation to allow for both responsive controls and hilarious face-plants. It is quite normal to be sent flying into the air by an oversized carp or be hung out to dry by a bamboo-swinging builder.

We have plenty of really fun and cool rewards for your pledge, here's a handy table so you can see what is included.

See? I told you so! Here are the rewards in detail:

Nippon Marathon's first home was on Steam Early Access in February 2018, we'd love to bring the game back to Steam users and we may explore early access again too. Backers with the limited Early Bird Beta pledge will get a Steam beta key some time before the full retail launch.

We love the Switch and its portable nature and awesome JoyCons make it a wonderful home for Nippon Marathon 2, that's why we're including it by default.

exA-Arcadia is creating a sustainable arcade eco system where arcades can continue to thrive and provide exciting location entertainment for generations to come, where creators can watch players enjoy their games to the fullest and most importantly, where customers of all ages can have fun. We are delighted to be working with exA-Arcadia again to bring Nippon Marathon 2 TURBO to the arcades. We have learned a huge amount about designing for the arcade market so expect Nippon Marathon 2 TURBO to be the ultra high-energy counterpart to the home version.

Are the the other platforms included in the stretch goals? lets find out...

 Fulfilment- 31%

This not only includes the cost of production and shipping of physical items such as T-Shirts and CDs but also the first party console platform fees associated with acquiring and fulfilling game keys which are around 30% of the full retail price of the game.

Kickstart Fees - 10%

Kickstarter fees include 5% of total funds raised, payment processing fees at 3% + £0.20 per pledge and pledges under £10 have a discounted micropledge fee of 5% + £0.05 per pledge. We estimate that our campaign will average out at around 10%.

Taxes - 15%

Although the exact amount of tax we will pay is difficult to calculate at this time it is safe to say it will be between 10% and 20% so we have estimated it at 15%.

Development - 44%

Less than 50% of the money generated by the campaign will make it into development, in all the research we've done it has surprised us just how much it will take to create the game but we truly believe there is enough fan support behind the concept to get us to the goal. As an example, for the basic funding goal, we're asking for £32,000. After all the deductions the income from Kickstarter is £18,673. The development cost of that version is £67,143. So we're covering the rest through our own resources and through contracts where possible.

As you know, Kickstarter campaigns are 'All or Nothing' therefore if you wish to play Nippon Marathon 2 please pledge to our campaign and share this page with your friends and family, every little bit of support helps so much!
