We've tried every jar opener available on the market, but none of them worked really well. That is because these tools:

• Provide grip on the lid, but you still need to hold the jar
• Still require you to use a lot of force to unscrew the lid
• Can only open jars with vacuum

The solution

We introduce the Quopener - the new effortless way to open jars. It is designed to open any shape or size of jar, with or without vacuum. And most importantly: You don't need to hold the jar or the lid!

Easy to use, regardless of age or ability

The Quopener helps anybody to be independent in the kitchen and is very easy to use:

     1. Place the Quopener on a jar

     2. Push the handles

     3. With very little effort the jar opens and you can remove the lid

Technology

After placing the Quopener on a jar and pushing the handles, several things happen in a matter of seconds.

The small push force from the hands is translated to a much larger clamping force on the lid and the jar. When this clamping force is high enough, the friction between grips, jar and lid is sufficient to avoid slippage. The preload of the spring ensures that no rotation will happen before that time. After applying a bit more force, the spring begins to elongate. This spring elongation allows the two clamping parts to rotate relative to one another, also rotating the jar and lid in the opposite direction and opening the jar.

Design

The Quopener features a minimalistic design that will fit every kitchen, and has been nominated for the 2019 German Design Award. At first, we will offer the Quopener in one color configuration. We will let our backers vote for the first color configuration. If we reach our stretch goal, we will be able to manufacture extra colors for you to choose from!

Designed and manufactured in Europe

The design has been a process of many years research and development, and many design iterations. Since the early plywood prototypes, the Quopener has evolved into a product that we are now ready to present to the world. Over the years new technologies have become available to us, such as 3D-printing, which have rapidly improved the design process in the final stages of productdevelopment. We've always been searching for the best possible ways to bring our ideas to life, resulting in lots of experiments with different materials and production methods.

The production version will be made by injection molding. We've selected an experienced manufacturing partner in the Netherlands who will optimize the design for mass production, fabricate the molds and handle the production and the final assembly. The custom-made spring will also be produced in the Netherlands.

To make the project fly, we will initially offer the Quopener in a standard color combination, but we really would like to offer more color options. So once we reach the stretch goal of 90.000 Euros we will be able to offer more color combinations.

About us

We, father and son, have joined forces to create what we believe is the best jar opener in the world. Both of us have an engineering background (mechanical, industrial design & biomedical engineering) and we love to create and do all kinds of DIY projects.

Our interest in engineering, design and product development has brought us to a stage where we now want to share our invention with the rest of the world. 

Since we started this project, we have learned something new every day. From using sophisticated design tools, to the secrets of injection molding. From cost estimating to video making. It has been a super exciting journey. And we are not there yet. To really bring this project to the next level we will have to work hard to expand our knowledge in areas such as marketing, communication and retail. We can't wait!
