The Adventure Tape® journey started in 2014, when Richard Brooks (Rich), a keen downhill mountain biker and also the Technical Director at Watts Urethane Products (located in sunny Lydney, UK), lost his patience with existing products on the market doing a bad job at protecting the chainstay on his precious Enduro bike.
As head of innovations at Watts, he created a super-strong, super-stretchy and grippy polyurethane tape to protect his chainstay. The tape worked perfectly, looked neat and has to date, never had to be replaced on his bike! Job done - and the rest of the tape ended up in a drawer.
That could have been the end of Adventure Tape, which at this stage had no name and, most likely, felt very neglected. Luckily for all of us, Watts’ new CEO in 2016, Dr Anthony Cooper was wandering around the factory looking for inspiration for further product developments, and came across the very same drawer. He was amazed by the tape and its unique properties and thought it could have great potential. Since then the tape has been further developed, tested, greatly admired and marvelled at. Adventure Tape was fully born and named!
Carefully developed by a small technical team, who are all passionate about outdoor adventure and innovation, Adventure Tape is made from a unique formula of durable polyurethane to create a tape with literally hundreds of applications. It is the perfect rescue solution for your gear on your outdoor adventures and travels, at home, in the garden, in the car, in the office, etc.
Adventure Tape will have you covered whether you need to:
- Compress your sleeping bag or any other bulky, soft item;
- Repair a tent pole;
- Fix a leaking hosepipe;
- Create a temporary emergency snowboard binding;
- Fashion an emergency sling for a broken arm;
- Protect the chainstay on your bike;
- Fix the strap on your backpack or handbag;
- Gently tie your precious roses up;
- Create an emergency solution for a broken suitcase zip;
- Fix your hiking boot sole to get down from the mountain
- Fix a leaking water bottle;
- Strap your car boot down (too many IKEA purchases – we've all been there!);

As you can see, the applications are endless and as it is non-adhesive, it will not leave any sticky residue or damage any surfaces.

SUPER STRONG
The unique polyurethane formula makes it super-strong – it won’t break, even when stretched to eight times its original size – we are confident that Superman will pledge to get some!
SUPER STRETCHY
More stretchy than Stretch Armstrong, Adventure Tape has incredible elongation qualities – a little will go a long way.
HIGHLY ABRASION-RESISTANT
Tested against Duct Tape, the Duct Tape lost the battle big time. It has been on Rich’s Enduro bike’s chainstay for three years and is still going strong.
RE-USABLE
Its super durable properties mean it won’t wear out even after multiple uses. In between uses, wash it under the tap or in a stream and pop it back into the handy tin - ready for the next mission.
WATERPROOF
Adventure Tape is completely waterproof and perfect for use in rain, water or to fix a leak. The more it is washed, the more its grip increases. We strapped our beer cool box with it to a SUP and ventured out on rather choppy water. It passed the test perfectly: the cool box stayed in place, the beer tasted great and the tape went back in the tin!
NON-ADHESIVE
It is not sticky like other tapes so there is no damage to any surface it touches and no residue is left behind. Perfect for wrapping your surfboard in bubble wrap – you can use both the tape and the intact bubble wrap again and again – also greatly appreciated by Mother Nature!
CONSTRICTIVE
You can get a really tight fit around an object as you will have seen in our KICKSTARTER video – that soft drinks can did not stand a chance. (We would not recommend that you try this at home, but if you do, make sure you wear protective clothing and glasses!).
GOOD LOOKING
We very much think so - and Adventure Tape comes in a very handsome tin – the perfect partner for any bag or backpack!
Adventure Tape is made from a carefully developed and unique formula of polyurethane and it is available in three sizes:
- Thin - 9mm (0.35")
- Medium - 18mm (0.71")
- Thick - 43mm (1.69")
Length for all sizes: 3.6m (11.8 ft)
Packaging: Adventure Tape comes in lightweight, handy and very handsome aluminium tins.
For the KICKSTARTER campaign, we have added in some standard buckles in the Medium and Thick tins for when a neat finish is required – we hope you will find them useful and we would be super grateful if you could give us some feedback on these. If useful, they will be made in durable polyurethane versions and included as standard for Medium and Thick.
We hope to smash our funding goal of £15,000, so we can purchase a tape-making machine that will allow us to put Adventure Tape into mass production.
We have great belief in our product and we are confident that you’ll love Adventure Tape as much as we do. We need to finish the process we started and put Adventure Tape into production and we would love for as many people as possible to feel that they are part of the Adventure Tape journey.
