Wow.....is it really the first time this has been done?

Yes, nöni™ is a genuine world-first in cookware: seamless one-piece production wrought stainless steel saucepans.

It has never been done before because it is almost impossible, and not possible with traditional pressing methods. After thousands of years of metal cookware (and a century of disposable cookware), this innovative little Australian engineering co. found a way. The patents* are pending, tooling made, prototypes loved by chefs, and production is ready to go!

With your support for this Kickstarter campaign, together we will be pioneering a whole NEW category of cookware: seamless one piece stainless steel cookware.

Are we witnessing a revolution in cookware?

No stainless cookware in history has come with this array of multi-generation benefits.
No stainless cookware in history has come with this array of multi-generation benefits.

Yes, this is the debut of a whole new category of high performance cookware: seamless 1-piece stainless.

However, we couldn't make history alone, without your support.

Invest now in generations of heirloom cooking

These prices will never be matched again (retail will be higher, particularly overseas), and this pan will never be stamped FIRST EDITION again.
These prices will never be matched again (retail will be higher, particularly overseas), and this pan will never be stamped FIRST EDITION again.

TIP for our most dedicated supporters: see 'Fast Faithful' nöni™ reward at right! A higher cost small-batch, and totally up to you, but this is our first ever limited numbered series, and it delivers months ahead of the Earlybird first main batch.

Sets: Great value for our best combinations of wrought iron and wrought stainless 1-piece cookware. Note that all AUS-ION pans are our premium Satin edition, but not 'First Edition' (they are already at retail).

Expensive? Certainly not inexpensive, but an investment in the future. Manufacturing in Australia, with this world-first (and difficult) patented method, to this high quality level, with exotic German ferritic stainless and a lot of artisanal hand finishing, is certainly not inexpensive or fast. We hope you will agree that nöni™ is still great value, as an investment in a lifetime of solid cooking love, and an heirloom to pass down for many generations.

Slow? A Kickstarter launch of a new innovation isn't online retail: we're creating something revolutionary in this industry, and we don't have a warehouse full of imported generic products ready to ship. We are waiting on the smelting and shipping of new material. Kickstarter is all about crowdfunding to support the debut of a world-first creative project, and a vision, from scratch. We hope you'll bear with us while we make history!

See Section 2 for more notes on Kickstarter basics, lead times and manufacturing cost: considering cookware as a multi-generation investment vs a disposable expense.

Limited First Edition, only on Kickstarter!

A major attraction for backers in all our past 9 Kickstarters has been how we stamp every limited edition Kickstarter pan with 'FIRST EDITION', and the date. Our backers love that their heirloom Solidteknics cookware will be passed down for many generations, and the rarest of all, First Edition, will certainly become treasured collectibles.

Every backer will receive their nöni First Edition pots and skillet-lids stamped in base, and month/year under handle.
Every backer will receive their nöni First Edition pots and skillet-lids stamped in base, and month/year under handle.

Please remember: we only ever make First Edition pans for our Kickstarter campaign backers, and never again after the campaign closes. This saucepan and skillet-lid is only the first instalment in a long series of nöni™ stainless cookware under development. Over the next year we will launch more essential pieces on Kickstarter to complement our existing iron cookware, because every healthy and sustainable kitchen needs both kinds!

So NOW is the time to secure your rare piece of Australian, and world, stainless cookware history!

For nöni™ we scoured the globe for this exotic, and exceptional, German ferritic stainless steel (zero stainless is made in Australia!). This is not a common Nickel austenitic stainless steel: this ferritic is much more heat conductive. Non-Nickel = magnetic = induction compatible. Our nöni™ saucepan and skillet-lid are both wrought from this beautiful material.

See Section 2 for more nöni™ material detail, including a revealing 'boiling race' against another top brand.

Forever grateful for all the love from supporters!

We knew in our BONES we'd created something very special with nöni, but we were overwhelmed by the reaction to our FB posts. While not celebrity blogger scale, they were huge for this industry, and practically VIRAL for Aussie manufacturing scale!!

We feel blessed and proud to see so much strong support in the cooking community for our Australian cookware vision. We simply would not have survived, against all the odds, if not for your faith, your social sharing, and your Kickstarter pledging. You inspire us to keep on pushing through the many barriers.

Bless you all!

See lead times for various batches listed for each Reward. Early birds catch the stainless worms!

Our main constraint is the exotic German ferritic stainless, with long smelting and shipping lead times. Once we are established with a good stock of material, that will no longer be an issue for future launches. So please bear with us for this first nöni™ Kickstarter and don't miss out on these limited First Editions!

IN CONCLUSION

We launched a whole new cookware industry for Australia when we successfully crowdfunded our first AUSfonte™ cast iron cookware here on Kickstarter in 4 campaigns from Sept 2014, then AUS-ION™ wrought iron pans in 5 campaigns from Sept 2015. Our iron pans are already acclaimed by chefs and experts, selling strongly in Australia, and exported to the USA and UK. Solidteknics is still the only production cookware made in Australia. Every other brand is imported, and disposable synthetic nonsticks sadly still dominate retail shelves.....and landfills.

Now our patent-pending nöni™ will be the only seamless one-piece stainless steel production cookware in the world, and easily the most durable. We believe this launch of nöni™ heralds the birth of a whole new cookware category, and also, we hope, a growing movement to reject disposable/toxic cookware, for the sake of future generations.

Pease SHARE the news with all your friends: that you’ve found the finest iron and stainless cookware available today, they're made in Australia, and these new heirloom collectible FIRST EDITION nöni™ pans are only available once, by pledging here on Kickstarter before the campaign deadline.

Together we'll make history, not just the world's finest cookware.

Thank you and Happy Cooking!!

THE END.....

.....unless you want more detail!

All the detail you probably want was presented above in Section 1. However, if this is your first time pledging on Kickstarter, or first experience with Solidteknics, please read on for valuable extra background info on both. If you have any specific questions, please direct message us through Kickstarter, or email us [email protected]

It all 'boils down' to this.....

Multi-century warranty?!

Unusual (we think we're the first), but true! Like our seamless wrought iron skillets, we are offering a multi-century warranty for nöni™.

This isn't a marketing gimmick. We're not marketeers.....we're engineers. This is solid engineering.

Made from one seamless 3mm wrought monobloc of very tough material, this stainless won't crack like cast iron. There's no synthetic coatings or enamel, and there's no rivets, welds, seams or clad layers to eventually fail. It would be clear to any experienced engineer that there is far more than one century of life in nöni™ cookware!

Note that our warranty only covers normal cooking situations, not abuse, and doesn't cover small stains and rust spots that may be possible in extreme environments. We haven't seen rust on nöni™ in all our trials (and long-term kitchen use, including dishwashers), except for long duration salt spray tests: way harsher than real kitchen life. In the unlikely event you did develop a small rust spot, don't worry: it will polish off and the pan won't be harmed. In general, don't leave the pan in wet/caustic/acidic environments. Simple care would suffice, like wash and dry, or at least open the dishwasher door after a cycle. Don't leave in seawater, or in contact with wet dissimilar metals (like sink top). We won't replace a pan, with all the waste involved, for a small, easily-fixed blemish caused by lack of care.

We want our supporters to buy our cookware only once, and hand them down for multiple generations as treasured heirlooms. That's why we stamp the date of manufacture on every pan.

Parents and grandparents are already talking like this about our wrought iron pans, and that's what makes us most proud of all.....making history, not just cookware!

Why choose this particular ferritic stainless material?

Our new saucepans are called, in full, 'CoSSNoNi', for 'Conductive Seamless Stainless No Nickel' ('nöni' for short!).

Our nöni™ pans are formed into shape from one solid sheet of 3mm ferritic no Nickel (only very tiny trace amounts) stainless steel, which is more conductive than regular Nickel-based stainless steels (eg. '18-10 stainless' means 18% Chromium and 10% Nickel). This makes our ferritic stainless more conductive. This ferritic stainless is also magnetic (not 'magnetised'), so it is perfectly compatible with induction. (Most stainless steel pans need a 'sandwich base' or 'ply' or 'clad' layers with an outside layer of magnetic material to work with induction, and those constructions don't last forever.)

Because no (zero!) stainless steel sheet is made in Australia, we had to scour the globe for the best stainless to meet our rigorous specifications: more conductive than regular so we didn't need clad layers, no nickel for magnetism (induction compatibility), and free of heavy metals for health, and it had to be formable into our saucepan shapes with our new patent-pending method.

Not easy, but we found it in this very special, though expensive, small-batch ferritic sheet from Germany. We hope to one day inspire the big steel producers of Australia to restart their stainless steel industry.....but we'd first need to be making a LOT of pans. Maybe one day, with lots of love from our supporters helping grow this new world-leading Aussie cookware brand!

Our nöni™ ferritic solid stainless conducts fast and evenly

Boiling race! In this video we are compared with an expensive, well-known tri-ply cookware brand, under identical conditions. This tri-ply pot not only took longer to reach boil, more unevenly, but it never reached the strength of boil of nöni™. We see this a lot with ply/clad cookware. There is a huge amount of energy expended in manufacturing 3, 5, or 7 ply layers to conduct heat (with aluminium or copper layers), and attract induction (with a magnetic ferritic layer), mostly because the layer on the cooking side is less conductive, non-magentic nickel-stainless (austenitic). We do it better with one solid layer of the right material.

Yes, the best and most expensive brands are good conductors, and will last for decades, but they won't last forever. Our solid 3mm ferritic doesn't need layers to be a fast and even conductor, on any heat source including induction, and being one seamless piece means we will have no layers de-laminating or rivets failing over the decades.....or centuries.

nöni™ cookware weights:

Similar weights to other high-quality cookware:

Big 'expense', or fair 'investment'? Two very different things.....

Yes, nöni™ is undeniably 'premium' cookware. Some things to consider when weighing the value of your pledge:

Costs are what they are: nöni™ is made from premium small batch German ferritic stainless steel, and manufactured with a difficult new patented method in Australia, with a lot of artisinal finishing at very high labour cost.

Margins are low and we should be charging more, but we're working hard to reduce finishing costs so we don't need to raise prices too much in future, to one day make reasonable margin. The only way we could reduce the price further is to move production to Asia. We will not be doing that.

While nöni™ is price competitive with other high quality European/American brands, our performance benefits and multi-century durability is not matched by any other brand.

Competition price examples. If you haven't shopped for high quality cookware for a while, you might be surprised. It's easy to Google, but here's some perspective with other retail prices for quality cookware in Australia: A major USA brand, 5-ply 2.8L, with thin stamped lid, retails for $400 (on sale at a discounter for $258). A Belgian saucepan, 3L in 7 ply stainless (with a warning 'use on low to medium heat only') sells on a discount web retailer for $298. A famous French cast iron brand making their 18cm 3 ply stainless saucepans in China retails for $290. An old French brand, still made in France, 20cm 5ply stainless, at an online discounter for $360. A big USA brand, 18cm in anodised aluminium, also made in China, retails for $200. A Danish brand, 18cm/1.5L, synthetic nonstick coated aluminium, retails for $290. There's a lot of cooks paying too much for brand, and not enough for performance and durability! Of course there's also plenty of lower cost single ply stainless with sandwich core bottom, or stamped aluminum with Teflon coatings, but they are not in our league, and if you think they're okay, there's no need to consider ours.

Prices are likely to be much higher when nöni™ eventually reaches retail. There will be retail margins, plus importer margins for overseas retail sales. These Kickstarter prices are probably the lowest nöni™ will ever be.

Making just one investment in each necessary piece of cookware over your whole lifetime works out to be the best value of all, compared with lots of disposal, repurchase.....and landfill. Even better value for coming generations who won't need to buy cookware: they'll be using your Solidteknics family heirlooms!

Kickstarter shipping costs

Remember, Kickstarter wasn't set up to be an online retail store, but a place to back creative projects. One of the quirks is that you don't see shipping costs until after you select your reward and destination. If this is your first time on Kickstarter, please see www.kickstarter.com/help/faq/kickstarter+basics

This is our 10th campaign, and you can trust we know our shipping costs, after many thousands of pledges and shipments to happy backers. Like the millions of other Kickstarter campaign rewards shipped over the years, we ship all over the world, and shipping charges vary wildly.

We use the Aust Post standard air to calculate overseas rates (plus $10 for handling), and for Aust we charge a flat $19 per product (because Kickstarter doesn't allow us to charge by postcode: just one rate per country). We actually lose a lot of money when we ship outside of the cities, and make a little when we ship inside cities, and it all balances out to almost exactly zero by the end of the campaign.

We hope you will understand we're not interested in making money from shipping, but we're also not going to threaten the existence of this fledgling little Australian cookware industry by losing money on shipping either.

Don't forget, our nöni™ pans will be much higher cost at retail after this campaign, and that is only if we can get the volume up and manufacturing cost down further, with big investment in robots. Retail prices could be a LOT more expensive if we don't.

In the end the choice is yours to believe our cookware is great value with shipping, or not. We sincerely hope you will understand, and take this opportunity to secure these very limited First Edition pans. They will never be offered again.

Still have concerns?

If you have any concerns about anything in the campaign, please contact us first via direct message or email [email protected] . Please do not run first to social media with a public post before you understand the background. If you don't already know us, you will find we have solid integrity, and we are dedicated to making all our supporters happy. We always give, and expect, mutual respect.

FAQ: Why so long to deliver rewards, this time?

Yes, it's true that our lead times are longer for this campaign than our previous 9 campaigns, and we sincerely wished we had a better solution for you, our highly valued community of supporters.

So we're really stuck with the long production and shipping times with this special German material, and this is the best we can do for this Kickstarter for one simple and frustrating reason: no (zero) stainless steel is made in Australia(!), and the very best ferritic stainless for our new method of making cookware comes from Germany. We just couldn't compromise on quality of stainless and accept cheaper/faster sources.

Yes it's exotic, and it needs to be made for us.....hence the long time for German production of the stainless, shipping to exact opposite side of the globe, then Sydney production of the pans. The good news is that we took the risk and put enough sheets on a boat to quickly finish 200 sets for our 'Fast Faithful'. We've ordered material for production of 8,000 pans, and we'll watch pledges closely to get more on the water if we need it.

Also, lead time will be closer to 'normal' from our 11th Kickstarter onward (launching around October), because we will have forecasted and ordered lots of the material, based on the demand we see in this Kickstarter, and demand from retailers around the world. We've got a feeling it will be a lot of stainless.....but we need to wait to be sure, with this size investment. So, please excuse our long lead time, this time around, and pledge here so you can secure one of the rare First Edition nöni™ pans from their first history-making production run!

When a lid is not just a lid.....

Open flat skillets are the best for frying, grilling, browning, with no walls to capture steam.
Open flat skillets are the best for frying, grilling, browning, with no walls to capture steam.

Because we're making lids in Australia, we knew they could never be as low cost as the cheap imports. So that motivated us to come up with a lid that serves more than one function.

Our nöni™ Skillet-lid is also a world-first, we believe. Aussie innovation!

We still prefer the natural nonstick of seasoned iron for frying, grilling, etc, but.....

We have the engineering expertise.

Our founder, mechanical engineer, Mark Henry, has been developing equipment for chefs for two decades (more on his background in section 2). He's also been working to solve the health and durability problems of rivets and synthetic coatings in cookware for just as long. Certainly not easy, but he kept 'failing until he stopped failing' (succeeded), and launched the pioneering AUS-ION seamless wrought iron pans in 2015.

The technology for nöni is basically the same as for AUS-ION skillets, and uses the same patents. The big difference is that saucepans are much deeper than skillets, and this type of stainless steel is very difficult to form from flat sheet into a deep pot.....with an integral handle, all in one piece.....

Yes, it was a long and tortuous development path, but we got there in the end, driven on by the belief that serious cooks everywhere would be attracted to the world's most durable and healthy stainless saucepans.

We're ready to manufacture nöni™, and we believe the world is ready for our healthy multi-generation saucepans. Only time will tell, and only our supporters can turn this Australian cookware dream into a reality!

We have the Kickstarter track record.

This is our 10th (tenth!) Kickstarter campaign, after 4 for AUSfonte cast iron launches, and 5 for AUS-ION wrought iron launches. Some were huge, and all rewards were shipped as promised to thousands of happy backers all over the world.

We don't say this to be boastful, but to show the depth of support we've so rapidly built in the cooking community. The Kickstarter funding success certainly has been important for turning our dream for a new world-leading Australian cookware industry into a reality. However, it was our supporters sharing the love that really made Solidteknics successful at retail in Australia, in export to the USA, and now to UK.

Sure, we got the engineering right, but without so many strong supporters we would still only be 'dreamers with prototypes'!

We are forever grateful for everyone who backed us, and shared the dream. Thank you!
