I can see for certain projects we get extra rewards, for example an extra LED kit with the cinch tent, but how does the project creator know we are members of backerco to provide us with the extra items?

Most seem to take our word for it. Maybe Mark will pop by and let us know if they have access to a list of members who back. If you look at an individual project here on the group it tells you how many members have backed although it seems to have a 24-48 hour lag.

Similar to Ollie's question, I'm a backer of "A Mechanical Pencil That Will Last You A Lifetime. by Andrew Sanderson". KickStarter automatically adds $10(2x$5) shipping to my pledge(shipping to US). How do BackerClub backers get the free US shipping?

I always drop creators a PM letting them know I'm a Backerclub member if they don't have specific Backerclub pledge, I compliment them on their project let them know I'm a BC member & remind them of the reward and/or specify the reward if there were several options. I ask if I need to do anything else.

If something is offered as a perk to BC members like free shipping but Kickstarter charges shipping I'd PM the creator and make them aware of the problem.

Out of curiosity, if I were creating a project (which I'm not at the moment), what would you reckon an ample Backerclub reward would be?

Does anything happen if a creator does NOT offer a Backerclub reward? What if they offer one that goes above and beyond most others?

Sorry for jumping in very late on this conversation...I missed this one. :)

Travis & Tasha: the project creators have a dashboard that shows them which BackerClub members have supported their project. So, there shouldn't be any issues with a creator not being aware that you are a BC member if you have supported their project.

As far as what rewards to offer. I think the most exciting ones are unique to BC members only...a special color or engraving option that can't be gotten elsewhere. Free upgrades are nice to (ie: pledge $30 and get upgraded to the $40 level automatically). I'd love to hear what others feel are the best ideas for rewards.

As the club continues to grow I expect the rewards to only get better and better. As it becomes more and more desirable for project creators to want to be featured on BackerClub, I think the rewards creators are willing to offer for the opportunity to get in front of the BC crowd will increase.

I love free upgrades (pledge $30 get the $40 level perks) or including an add-on for no additional cost.

I really appreciate the Backerclub member pledges but am frustrated when those are limited to 10-15 people. I've seen at least one project which did this where according to the project page here over 40 members were backing.

As others have noted many times we are offered deals/specials which are already gone by the time we check out the project. I don't know about other members but other than Shabbat, when I'm offline, I'm checking projects out once or twice a day.

Agreed, the free upgrade is an amazing offer in How To Create A Successful App Business. I was already looking at the KS with the idea that it would be a great experience for my son. The $139 level looked like the best fit but was stretching the budget so I was holding off. Then the BackerClub offer of a free upgrade even for the top tiers became available and it became much more appealing. Now I have backed with my original pledge consideration and know that I am receiving a great deal for it. I am even considering ways to scrounge the additional funds to back at the $499 level as the upgrade from there would be an incredible deal and truly extend the value of this product.

I also agree that limiting the number when offering a BackersClub special is a little frustrating. I imagine though that for some the budget for their campaign is fairly tight. They are already paying a fee for BackersClub and offering rewards, often with discounts, in their campaign. If they have planned too tightly then they could lose money when offering us great deals even though it generated more backers. They need a reason to believe that we will really boost their campaign enough to more than compensate.

Wait - to clarify - what limits the amount of BackerClub free upgrades / benefits?

Is this done on Kickstarter's side or the project creators?

On one project the Creator created a Backerclub pledge but limited the number of slots (like early backer pledges) to 10 people. That was a creator decision. It felt wrong to me. If you are trying to get a bunch of backers from a group to come back your project and you are offering them a special perk I feel it puts a bad face on things to limit how many are eligible for the perk. If you are going to do that make sure you let us know up front - here on Backerclub that only the 1st 10 members will get the special perk.
