Backerclub keep asking the same pledge amount again & again

I too have had several Kickstarter pledge amounts I entered disappear for no obvious reason. I have found a workaround though. Instead of just typing in the pledge amount, instead use the up/down arrows in the pledge amount box to scroll to the correct pledged value, then save the entry/entries. Since doing that, I've not had to reenter any pledge amounts!
I just got asked to verify my pledge amount for the very first time. The email made me highly suspicious however I see from the forum it's genuine.
I suspect that the BackerClub uses only public data to determine who's done what - so they can see who's backed a project, deduce roughly when, but not determine the amount in any reliable way. (Pure guesswork BTW).
What I don't get is why, after I backed several projects over the last month, I got my 1st confirmation today. All I can think is that I backed at a level which was clearly variable.
Anyone else got thoughts on this whole process?
