It looks like January 2015 may be remembered for the dominance of retro art style games.
STRAFE is a love letter to extreme 1996 first-person shooters. The cheesy 90s commercial style pitch video is generating a lot of press for it. RetroBlazer may have a tough time competing against it.
Drift Stage is an homage to old SEGA arcade racers. It had some very solid pre-launch marketing from releasing a demo early.
Steel Assault uses an art style inspired by some of the last and most technically advanced games for the NES. Gameplay is similar to Shatterhand.
With games like these most of the comments outside of Kickstarter are usually divided into people expressing their dislike at indie developers using such old looking graphics because it is seen as lazy and people who express their nostalgia for games of the past.
