We started thinking about the future of clothes in the high-tech era back in 2014. Over the following 3 years, the bits and pieces of ideas evolved into a clear vision of the future of clothing. We filed a patent. We established a goal to create the clothes of the future. We created a road map. We started making the idea into products.
We envision that in the future, clothes will serve as a platform for personal computing and telecommunication. This platform based on clothes will have its own CPU, power management unit , telecommunication unit and other auxiliary systems. This platform will host other devices such as human-machine interfaces (touchable screen, earphone), sensors (temperature, moisture), and special purpose devices (camera, scanner,heating/cooling) to form an intelligent layer around people’s bodies.
Such a platform has quite a few advantages over the alternatives , e.g., smartphone, but we will talk about only two major ones here:
It has a much larger surface and more space, meaning less restriction on dimensions, cooling, or power for processors. So, a more powerful architecture than ARM could be used. Bigger surface or space means bigger antennas can be used, therefore we can have better telecommunication.
We need not mention that this platform is naturally wearable, as people have been wearing clothes for thousands of years. Biosensors on this platform can monitor more spots of your body less intrusively.
We believe that creating the clothes of the future can not be achieved simply by adding more and more high-tech gadgets to traditional clothes. We need to change the fabric, threads, and the electronic components to make them work together seamlessly.
As you can see, to realize what we envisioned is a quite lofty goal. But even a thousand miles journey starts with a single step, and this campaign is our humble “first step”. We use this campaign to introduce our idea, to get feedback and to raise fund for the future R&D.
